Scott awakened the following morning to the sound of a ringing telephone. He fumbled for his cell phone on the nightstand, but it wasn’t ringing. Must be Lisa’s phone.
He gently shook her awake. Lisa looked at him through sleepy eyes, her disheveled hair partially obscuring one eye. She smiled.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning. I hate to wake you, but I think your phone’s ringing.”
She threw back the covers, then scampered naked to the guest room. Scott rested one arm under his head on the pillow and grinned. Man, what a Christmas this is turning out to be. I was dreading today, and look what happened. Santa brought me a real live friend so I wouldn’t be alone. And she’s thinking of moving up here. Just when I think things are looking bleak, I get surprised.
He looked over when he heard Lisa walking back to the bedroom. His eyes scanned her naked body, appreciating her beauty. She slid under the covers, then propped herself up on one elbow.
“Is everything okay?” he asked.
“That was my sister. Mom told her what happened and she said they’d pick me up on their way.”
Scott felt his spirits sink. I knew this was too good to be real. He put on his patented brave face and tried to hide his disappointment.
“That’s nice of her to do that. You really should be with your family today.”
Lisa placed her fingertip on his lips to silence him. “I told her no thanks because I’m spending the holiday with a good friend who’s all alone.”
A smile overtook his face, and he felt giddy inside. “Are you sure you want to do that?”
She slowly nodded, then placed her palm on his cheek. “I’m sure, but stop being such a nice guy about everything.”
“I thought that was one of the things you liked about me.”
She flashed a teasing smile. “Not when it comes to you going after something you really want.”
“Fine. I’ll be a selfish prick when it comes to you.”
“That’s better.”
Lisa hovered over him, then planted her lips on his, passionately kissing him and snaking her tongue into his mouth. He placed his palms on her smooth naked back, enjoying their early morning closeness. He pulled the covers over them, and they snuggled close.
Lisa rested her head on his shoulder and her hand on his chest, lightly rubbing him. “This is nice, cuddling with someone on a cold winter morning.”
“I’ve missed it, too. Lisa, I really regret that I didn’t go after you when I had the chance.”
“I’m sorry, too, but the timing wasn’t right. We went to different colleges and didn’t really see each other that often.” She softly laughed. “Although I remember the summer after our first year when we came home. You were working at your uncle’s furniture store making deliveries, and I’d see you around town. Bet you don’t remember, do you?”
“Are you talking about all the times I took my lunch breaks at Elmo’s Diner, and you waited on me?”
“I’m impressed. You do remember.”
